As any competition enthusiast (or Comper) will confirm, entering competitions is indeed a most stimulating, interesting and profitable activity. Millions of pounds in prizes are given away each year and if you possess normal intelligence and the virtue of perseverance, there is no reason I the world why you should not share in this bounty.

Here are a few hints and tips to get you started on this addictive and most rewarding hobby.

Types of competitions

Answers
The majority of competitions will ask you to answer a set of factual questions - get these right and you will head to the all important judging stage. If your answer is wrong - your entry will be heading straight to the bin. Accolade Publishing’s magazines will of course give you advice on the answers to a promoters question and we go to great lengths to get you through this first stage.

Prize Draws
Are free to enter prize draws where no element of skill is required. All you have to do is complete an entry form and postcard and send off your entry.

Order of Merit
In this type of competition. Entrants are asked to place a number of attributes in order of importance. On average, about six different elements are to be considered.

Spot the Difference
These are usually featured along with a slogan. If an entrant correctly notes the differences required, then their slogan will go onto the judging stage.

Tie-Breaker Slogans
The winner of many competitions will be finally determined on the best slogan submitted in the opinion of the judges. Therefore its worth spending some time to come up with a good one.
